Match reports – Week ending 19th October
On Wednesday 16th October, Glebe Under 9 girls played two hockey matches against Langley. Langley brought two teams and we played Langley City first. We won the toss and seemed to be the strongest team. We had most of the possession. We were doing well in defence and midfield and Orla scored a great goal. The whole team worked equally hard. We won the game 1-0.
Then we played Langley Dragons. It was a very even game, but we were very tired as we’d had no rest. Maddie did some brilliant saves in goal. The final score was 0-0. My girl of the game is Maddie because she had never played goalie before.
UNDER 9 CONTACT RUGBY V TOWN CLOSE
On Tuesday, 16th October, Glebe Under 9s had a contact match against Town Close. They won the toss and chose to start and straight away they scored. I soon scored afterwards. At half-time it was 6-3 to them.
In the second half we started well and I scored to make it 6-4. They made some good runs but so did we. I would like to mention Freddie Hawkins and Sammy for some particularly nice runs. I scored with the last play of the match but we lost by 12 tries to 5. However, we all put in a great effort.
My men of the match were Jacob for some amazing tackles, Freddie Hawkins for some great runs forward even though he is in Year 3, and Benjy and Sammy for good defence and attack. Well done team!
U11 Hockey v King’s, Ely
On Wednesday 17th October, Glebe under 11 girls travelled to Ely the play a hockey match. We started off well with Orla scoring two instant goals.
In the second quarter I scored another goal.
In the third quarter we played an older team. We started off well with Mabel and Eliza scoring a goal each. We finished the game with a 5-0 win.
My girl of the game is Orla for her excellent goals.
Next time we need to not crowd the ball. Well done girls for our unbeaten half term. Keep it up!
Match reports – week ending 12th October 2018
On Wednesday 10th October Glebe Under 13 girls travelled to Hethersett Old Hall School for a hockey match.
We started off ok considering the match was on grass, a surface we hadn’t played on for a long time! We still managed to score 2 goals, one from Daisy and one from Elise. We then fell asleep a little at the back and let in our first goal of the season.
We started the second half quickly and moved the ball around sharply. We scored 4 more goals, 2 from Emily, and one from Daisy and one from myself. We rotated positions to make the match more competitive and this will also benefit us in the long run.
My girl of the game was Emily for her two amazing goals and her speed around the pitch.
>U11 Hockey v Culford
On Wednesday 10th October we played hockey against Culford School at home. I won the toss and chose first push back. We started well creating a lot of chances but their goalie was saving everything. Finally Annabel scored a goal.
Half time came and we were given an encouraging talk by Miss Patrick. We began as we finished the first half with Mabel scoring two further goals and Eliza scoring our fourth.
We finished the match 4-0, continuing our unbeaten run.
My girls of the game are Annabel for her good passing and Eliza for her good goal.
Well done girls, more of the same next time.
Match reports – Week ending 05.10.18
U11 Hockey match
On Wednesday the 3rd of October we travelled to Gresham’s to play a hockey match. I lost the toss and chose ends.
We started off well having a few chances to score. I had a shot but it was deflected by the goalie. As a result of the deflection the ball went into the air with Mabel taking a tennis shot and scoring a goal. We began to play well but got too confident and started to get sloppy. This led to Gresham’s scoring two goals. We began to compose ourselves again, playing better as a team. This led to Mabel scoring another goal and levelling the score.
My girl of the game is Mabel for scoring the epic two goals. Well done team for our undefeated start to the season. Let’s keep it up.
Under 11 Rugby
On Wednesday 5th October, the under 11 Rugby team travelled to Langley school for a match. We were joined by four boys from Downham Prep and it was decided to split into two 7-a-side teams with 5 Glebe and 2 Downham in each team.
The first match was close throughout with Ferdi playing particularly well and scoring tries. Everyone performed in a tough match and we lost 4-2.
The second match was even closer, but we eventually lost 4-3. Edward was excellent in the tackle area and Freddie scored a great try.
We then played a short 9-a-side game which we lost 5-1, but the performance was still a brave one with good running and passing.
To improve we have to be more dynamic in the ruck area and tackle with more conviction.
Men of the matches were Ferdi and Edward.
