Forest School Returns to Glebe House School

We are delighted to announce the reintroduction of Forest School to our timetable this year, a truly valuable addition to the rich and varied opportunities we offer at Glebe House School. With our wonderful location and expansive grounds, Forest School provides the perfect setting for pupils to learn, grow and explore beyond the classroom.

Led by our dedicated Forest School Lead, Mrs Haslam, this programme has been designed to nurture a lifelong love of outdoor learning and environmental stewardship. From Nursery (age 3–4) through to Division VIII, pupils will have the chance to take part in carefully planned sessions that balance structure with freedom, ensuring children can build confidence, resilience, teamwork and practical skills in a natural environment.

This term, our first sessions began with Reception, Division II, and Division III, and the children’s enthusiasm was matched only by the glorious autumn weather. Pupils set off to explore some of the wilder corners of the school grounds, each child drawn to a different adventure. For some, the priority was foraging for acorns and berries, while others set about designing and testing bridges, or challenging themselves to climb into (and out of!) the legendary “Big Hole.”

Imaginative play soon grew into friendly team challenges, with plenty of laughter along the way. The rope swing was a particular highlight, quickly becoming a favourite and already inspiring ambitious ideas for upgrades!

Throughout each session, children worked hard not only on their own projects, but also on learning how to assess risks for their safety, collaborate effectively and care for our precious natural spaces. These are the foundations of Forest School: building character, curiosity and respect for the world around us.

We are thrilled to have Forest School back in our timetable, and we look forward to welcoming more groups into the woods in the coming weeks. The adventure has only just begun!
