The final two weeks of term at Glebe House School were filled with festive cheer as the school celebrated the season in various delightful ways, with the season’s highlights including the Pre-Prep Nativity performance, an enchanting Christmas Concert in Hunstanton Town Hall, and a traditional Carol Service.
Festive Activities
The festivities started with a fun Prep trip to Skaters in Walpole Highway on Thursday 30th November, generously funded by the Parents’ Committee. The skate rink provided a perfect setting for an unforgettable end-of-term treat, enjoyed by pupils and teachers alike.
Creativity took centre stage on Friday, 1st December, as Reception to Division IV enjoyed Gingerbread Decorating. This 90-minute session allowed the Pre-Prep and Junior Prep students to showcase their artistic flair, setting a festive tone for the holiday season, including the Boarders Christmas Party, Save the Children Christmas Jumper Day, and a Prep Christmas Disco.
Christmas Pantomime Trip
The magic continued on 4th December with Pre-Prep’s trip to the Princess Theatre in Hunstanton for a spellbinding performance of “Jack and the Beanstalk.” Thanks to the Parents’ Committee, who funded the trip, the children were treated to an evening filled with traditional pantomime fun, including a surprise custard pie in the face for Mrs. Playford!
Pre-Prep Nativity
The school hall came alive on December 5th and 6th with the heartwarming Pre-Prep Nativity performances of “A King is Born.” The younger children delivered a magical performance of the traditional Christmas story. Thank you to Mrs Playford, the Pre Prep staff, Mrs Snaith and Mrs Twite for the beautiful backdrops. The hot drinks and mince pies served at the end of the performance added an extra layer of joy to the event too!
Christmas Concert at Hunstanton Town Hall
The highlight of the celebrations took place at the Christmas Concert held at Hunstanton Town Hall on 8th December. The concert showcased the school’s artistic talent from the delightful Pre-Prep Nativity rendition of “Joyous News” and the Ballet performing “Let It Go” with Arthur as Sven, Harrison as Olaf and Enid as Elsa. Then it was the turn of the Prep School to entertain. Strictly led with an outstanding vibrant dance display, Divisions III and IV took to the stage with “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas” with Thiago as the lovable and cheeky Hippo. There was a fabulous dramatic arts display by Eagles and a wonderful festive medley of Christmas tunes from the Prep Choir. Divisions V and VI performed “Merry Christmas Everyone” by Shakin’ Stevens and Divisions VII and VIII sang “Merry Christmas” by Ed Sheeren and Elton John beautifully. The whole school finished with an incredibly festive performance of Sia’s “Candy Cane Lane” before inviting the audience to join in with the “Twelve Days of Christmas”. It was a delightful and exceptionally professional concert courtesy of the hard work put in by Mrs Hipwell, Mrs Carnell, Mrs Hawkins and Miss Gina and of course all our pupils.
Christmas Lunch & Carol Service
To wrap up the celebrations, everyone enjoyed a delicious Christmas lunch and a wonderfully traditional end to the first term with a School Carol Service at St Mary’s Church in Old Hunstanton. The afternoon featured carol singing, including a solo from Henry, ‘Away in a Manger’ by Pre-Prep, two festive numbers from the Prep Choir, and readings from pupils from Divisions III to VIII and Mr Stewart. The warmed mulled wine and mince pies served at the end were an extra special treat!
The memories created during these final two weeks will hopefully linger, serving as a heartwarming reminder of the spirit of togetherness for the whole school community. We wish you all a Merry Christmas and a pleasant holiday. See you in the New Year!
