Exploring the Human Form at Houghton Hall & Gardens

On Tuesday, 10th September, Divisions V and VI enjoyed an inspiring trip to Houghton Hall & Gardens to visit the Antony Gormley: Time Horizon exhibition for their first outing of the new school year.

Accompanied by Mrs Hipwell and Mrs Haslam, the children had a great time exploring the stunning grounds of Houghton Hall. They were amazed by the 100 cast-iron sculptures strategically placed across the park. Some sculptures were partially buried, with only their heads, chests, or knees visible. In contrast, others were mounted on concrete columns of varying heights. This experience gave our pupils a unique opportunity to broaden their horizons and reflect on the concept of humanity, its impact, and its position on the planet.

Our visit was not just about observing art but also about embracing our surroundings and appreciating the beauty of Norfolk. This trip will be a key focus of the children’s study of the human form in their art lessons this term, and the children will create their own artworks inspired by Gormley’s powerful works.

This trip to Houghton Hall & Gardens was a perfect start to the school year, igniting curiosity and boosting the creativity of our young learners beyond the classroom.
